Acer Aspire 5517 is a very good laptop. I got this laptop this last April. I have Windows 7 on mine. It came loaded with a dvd writer, multi-card reader, 3gb ram, 320 gb hard drive, AMD Athlon tk-42 processor, webcam, and 15.6 HD LCD screen. It comes equipped with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Live, Acer Crystal Eye Webcam, WinLocker, as well as other programs built around Windows.

It is very fast on every software that I have tried. The fan is unbelievably quiet. It has two USB ports, another screen port, power slot and ethernet port on the left side. On the right side is the dvd writer. On the front is the multi-card reader. Sd cards fit into this slot, an adapter must be used for mini-Sd cards.

The security level on this laptop seems to run higher than my last Acer, an Acer Aspire 5100, which still works good. You can set the security to any setting, same as with previous versions. Parental Controls have more details on locking or setting limits. Microsoft Office is a trial versoion, you must pay after using it for the 60 day trial. WinLocker is a feature that I have enjoyed. With it, you can put your file in the locker, set a password to access, without that password, your file can not be viewed.

The HD LCD is extremely clear, the clarity matches that of most HD television screens. Watching HD movies on this laptop is a joy. I have had no delays or lagging in watching dvds.

I originally could not get the touch pad to work. There is a button next to the power button, that if accidentally touched, turns off the touchpad. There is also a button to turn off Wifi, in case you do not want to be connected, or you want to quickly disconnect.

Other than this, I have had no problem with this laptop. I would highly recommend Acer laptops, this Acer Apire 5517 being my top choice.
