MacbookPro 2008 Model Review
I have a Late 2008 model Macbookpro. It is the 2.4Ghz, 2 gigs of ram, 15” screen model.
I purchased it off of Craigslist.org with about six months left on the factory one year warranty.
Two weeks into owning it, the screen started to flicker at random intervals. It would do it a few times a second, and then maybe once every five minutes. I was a bit worried I had bought someone’s messed up laptop, and decided to take it to the Apple store to see if they could fix it.
Before doing so I placed the laptop in front of a mirror and recorded a movie with the built in camera to capture the screen flicker. Of course when I got to the store the laptop refused to reproduce the flicker. This is where the little movie I made came in handy, as I played it for the “genius” and he could clearly see the problem.
They sent my laptop off for service, and three days later it came back repaired with a new screen and logic board. And best of all it did not cost a thing. Apple provided great service to me, and I was not even the original owner. I can’t say enough how impressed I was.
Besides the fantastic warranty service, I really enjoy the overall experience with the laptop. The aluminum case is great looking, and the multi-touch mouse pad makes navigating a breeze. The backlit keyboard is great at night, as are the speakers when I listen to music (though they could be a little louder).
It is easily the fastest laptop I have owned, and doesn’t seem to get bogged down when many application are running at the same time. I would easily recommend a Macbookpro to anyone I know.
